A lifelong educator, Michael West has worked with children and teens in the urban communities of Brooklyn, New York, for 26 years. His work with children and teens established his belief that socialization is just as important as education. As a result, he created the G.P.P.U. social-emotional learning system. Mr. West also believes that traditional education fails to meet the educational needs of a large segment of children and teens, and that traditional education must be supplemented to nurture children non-traditional talents and skills. To address that need, Mr. West development Multiple Alternative Pathways to Success college and career readiness program and Positive Striving Talent Search. Mr. West received an Associate Degree from the College of Staten Island in 1979 and a B.A. in journalism from New York University in 1981. He received a Master of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education in 1995.
